S&P affirms Ghana’s “B-/B” credit ratings with stable outlook
- S&P Global affirmed Ghana’s credit ratings at “B-/B” for Long- and Short-Term Foreign and Local currency, with the credit outlook reviewed to stable.
- The “B-/B” rating signifies a non-investment grade (speculative or junk) category, indicating high credit risk and vulnerability to default.
- The affirmation is attributed to the expanding gold sector benefiting external metrics, economic resilience, and ongoing fiscal reforms anchored by an IMF policy coordination instrument.
- S&P raised concerns about the Bank of Ghana’s weakened financial position due to rapid foreign currency reserve accumulation via gold exports, requiring significant recapitalization, and elevated fiscal costs of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
- A potential downgrade within 12-18 months could occur if debt refinancing is strained, deficits rise, public debt costs increase, terms of trade deteriorate, or the G20 Common Framework debt restructuring process stalls.

2027 budget to provide for grain silos – Agric Minister
- Adequate budget allocations will be made next year for the construction of grain silos to store Ghana's growing cereal surplus, with maize production exceeding demand by 1 million tonnes last year.
- The Minister of Food and Agriculture urged the Ghana Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) to play a critical role in building silos and strengthening its capacity to mop up excess production, thereby creating a reliable market for farmers.
- NAFCO has been directed by the government to release 50,000 bags of grains to repay an outstanding obligation to ECOWAS, which had lent grains for Ghana's School Feeding Programme in 2018.
- A new policy mandates NAFCO to ensure suppliers for public feeding programmes, such as Free SHS, purchase food directly from Ghanaian farmers instead of relying on imported produce to support local production.
- NAFCO reported a record net profit before tax of GH¢91.7 million in 2025, erasing a previous loss and marking its highest profit, along with a record GH¢20.3 million tax contribution to the state.
