• This programme mandates that all used vehicles destined for Ghana must comply with national standard GS 4510 before shipment from their country of origin.
• The standard prohibits the importation of severely damaged vehicles (e.g., flood-damaged, burnt, major chassis damage), right-hand-drive vehicles, those assembled from spare parts, vehicles without km/h speedometers, and vehicles older than 10 years.
• The initiative aims to prevent substandard and unsafe imports, improve compliance with safety and environmental standards, enhance consumer protection, and formalize Ghana's used vehicle industry.
• GSA also plans to introduce the Vehicle Dealer Information System (VEDIS) to integrate data from various agencies, preventing the importation and registration of stolen vehicles and improving traceability.
